At 7am she came to my bedroom and said that one of her car lights wasn't working and could she borrow mine? Of course I agreed and got up to sort out keys etc. Off she went in my car and I got dressed and sorted the children out with breakfast - we even had time to write a poem together following a little argument with a wardrobe door.

Soon it was 8.45 and time to bundle the children into my daughter's car, remembering not to let them put their schoolbags in the boot because Louis xmas present was still in there. I put the key in the ignition and the engine started .... then died I tried again ... it died again! Aimée (age 7) said "are you using the right key?" "of course I am!" said I One more turn of the key as I didn't want to flood the engine .... same thing happened. I thought I'd better call my daughter and explained what had happened and that it looked like an electrical problem then she said "which key are you using?" Then it suddenly dawned on me I recall that earlier this year her car key developed a fault and she had to get a new one. Fancy keeping the old one on the same key ring!!!

I switched keys and voila .... we had lift off

Now then what's that strange whining sound from the rear of the car? "I told you so Grandma"

On behalf of United Kingdom Customs & Excise I wish to thank you for your letter with regard to the alleged failure of Mr. S. Claus to properly declare gifts imported from abroad and to pay appropriate V.A.T. and import duty.

Unfortunately, I cannot comment on your information regarding transgressions of employment law with regard to the elves as this matter is currently sub-judice.

Most recently the Serious Crimes Unit of the Metropolitan Police has begun an investigation into the alleged usage of the Internet to communicate spurious promises offering something for nothing, which every adult knows to be a fantasy in this life. We have also noted your information regarding Mr. Claus’ consumption of sherry, brandy-laced mince pies and other forms of alcohol during his travels and you may be assured that the Metropolitan Police is very eager to breathalyse him at the earliest opportunity.

Please be advised that Customs & Excise has a continuing investigation into the usage of unregistered conveyances to enter the United Kingdom. We also have collateral investigations in conjunction with the Civil Aviation Authority regarding flights into restricted air space, although, mysteriously, the conveyance in question has not been sighted near 10 Downing St., Westminster for several years.

Finally, your allegations that Mr. Claus has removed every single flying reindeer, an endangered species, from their natural habitat and has hitched them to an overly-burdened sleigh, forcing them to fly under adverse weather conditions has been passed to the RSPCA. This cannot be permitted to continue and it is my understanding that prosecutions are imminent.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you personally for your information in this regard. It is all too rare that a member of the public is prepared to stand up and be counted when he or she witnesses an event that is contrary to the public interest.

Regards,
E. Bunny
HM Ministry of Custard and Exercise.

COME ON - OWN UP - IT WAS YOU WASN'T IT?

Here I am sat in my dressing gown blogging when I should be all dressed up nice and warm in some old jeans and jumper and out in the garden finishing off the jobs I started yesterday. But yesterday it was warm and sunny and today it's cold and windy.

Perhaps the wind will drop this afternoon and I'll venture out but until then I'm staying put. I might even have to light my first log fire of the winter except that means going out to the wood store and bringing a load of logs across to the house. I've been meaning to bring a dozen or so over but not got round to it.

Ah well - first things first - a cafetiere of coffee and a couple of croissants then I'll get dressed and do my ironing. Hopefully the weather might change by the time I've finished.

Have a lovely day wherever you are and however you decide to spend your Saturday - for two pins I'd sneak back under the duvet and spend the day in hibernation.

See you later.

This gets me out of the house and helps me keep in touch with a very nice bunch of people. Yesterday morning I spotted a member of the theatre group and excused myself from the "coffee group" to go and talk to her. I asked if if she wanted to come and sit with us but she declined.

When I went back to my seat someone said "Is that the lady who has the three-legged dog?"

This got me wondering how I'd be described?

Perhaps "Is that one of the ugly sisters?" or "Is that the woman who writes poems?"

How do you think your acquaintances would describe you?

I remember it was a super concert

I don't like nicknames very much apart from "Baba" which is what Aimee and Louis call me. I was once nicknamed "big feet" at school and I found it hurtful.
Darling
Sweetheart

16. Three careers you have considered/are considering:

I once applied to The National Trust to look after a castle in the West Country
A kept woman
Taster in a chocolate factory

17. Three ways you are stereotypically a man:

I am very practical and can do lots of stereotypically male tasks like change a car tyre and an electric plug etc.
I can be stubborn
I don't mind getting my hands dirty

18. Three ways you are stereotypically a woman:

I like men
I like to wear pretty underwear
I like flirting

19. Three things you want to do before you die:

Live and long, healthy and happy life
See my grandchildren grow into adults
Publish a series of poetry books

20. Three things you want to do really badly right now:

Meet my soulmate
Have a kiss and a cuddle
Go on holiday
*Not necessarily in that order!

Now it's your turn.

Have a lovely evening

Thank you for your recent invitation. If you are going to invite me to become one of your blog friends then at least indicate why we should be friends. Simply clicking the invite box isn't quite enough. This is especially important if:

a) you haven't recently posted anything on your own blog

b) we don't appear to have anything in common

c) we haven't had an exchange of comments

On this occasion I have declined your invitation. If sometime in the future any of the above criteria is fulfilled then perhaps we could become friends?

Until then - happy blogging

1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

14. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

1. With Friday the 13th on the horizon, do you have any superstitions?

Not really. I don't go out of my way to avoid going under ladders. I do say "touch wood" but think that's just force of habit.

2. Have you any phobias?

I dislike the thought of rats and mice but wouldn't say it was a phobia as such.

3. Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes - though I haven't had personal experience (yet!)

4. Do you believe in UFO's?

I've yet to make my mind up about this one.

5. If you could reincarnate, what would you come back as?

I think I'd like to be something like a dragonfly

6. Do you believe in past lives?

I'm not sure. I was once regressed and found it a strange experience

7. Have you a lucky number?

Not really but I like the shape and form of the number 8

8. Have you ever had your fortune told?

Yes - a few times with surprising results

9. Do you believe in Karma?

I'd like to think so

10. Has conventional religion had its day?

What do you call "conventional"?

 Comments

Mutual Respect and Tagging

I don't want to drag out the tagging debate but I thought it was worth posting a copy of a comment I've posted elsewhere:

It's comes back to that word RESPECT

I respect the fact that BCUK have to make decisions in order to run their business.

In return I feel that BCUK must have some respect for their users and treat them with respect.

I've no problem with the reduction in the length of tags - the issue is/was the way that it was handled. Give a little bit of notice (ie more than 2 days) I could have re-organised the few affected tags.

I enjoy being part of this community - long may it continue.

Right let's carry on with some RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE BLOGGING

 Comments

Friday Five - AUTUMN

It started right here

1. Do you have a favourite part of autumn?

My favourite part is running through the fallen leaves – childish perhaps but a lovely experience

2. "It's too cold to snow!" Do you think it ever is?

Erm……….let me think ……. Erm ……. I don’t really know!

3. Do you feel there is still a place for British Summer Time or should we just stop changing the clocks?

Leave them alone

4. Are there certain meals you only eat in certain seasons (salad in summer, stew in winter)?

Stews are lovely in winter. Salads are great all year round. Curries work well winter and summer as do fish and chips. Some foods are obviously seasonal. Hot cross buns should be eaten at Easter but crumpets must be available all year round – I remember once being told that crumpets were out of season!!!!

5. Autumn is...?

A golden time to ease us gently into the harshness of winter.

 Comments

Marmalade on my nose!

Well not quite but almost

You know those not quite wide awake moments when you're still on automatic pilot? When you reach for the orange juice to pour on your breakfast cereal or something similar.

Well here I was, sat at my laptop catching up on the latest blog posts and email messages when I remembered the troublesome spot on the end of my nose. You know how it is ... you look down at the keyboard and you can just see something out of the corner of your eye. I was going to say a "blackspot" but that gives totally the wrong impression.

Anyway back to the spot ..... for the last few days I've kept a pot of ointment next to my laptop so that I'd remember to keep applying it liberally throughout the day. Last night, for some reason, I moved it. This morning I was sat here with coffee, toast and marmalade and a moment ago I reached out for the pot of ointment..... phew that was a close thing.

I'm sure you all wanted to hear this rubbish!!!!

My poetry blog has suffered on two fronts - firstly my tag "poem" was deleted from over 260 posts. BCUK doesn't know how this happened

And now, according to the following message from BCUK, my Teddy Polar Bear (and other) poems have lost their title tags because they exceeded the five word limit.

The two actions have completely ruined my tagging system.

Hello la_spice,

in order to use your tags to improve the searchability of your blog posts, it has been necessary to make a few changes to the tag system.

The changes are as follows:

- tags will continue to be separated by a comma
- a tag must consist of between two and fifty characters
- a single tag can consist of up to five words
- almost all characters can be used as tags, except <, > and any other HTML code symbols

Unfortunately, these changes have caused some of your tags to be deleted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following are your tags were deleted:

Post Tag: firmness-like-it-used-to-be | at-the-end-of-the-day | don’t-let-my-mother-on-the-stage-mr-sullivan | teddy-polar-bear-goes-to-school | teddy-polar-bear-goes-on-holiday | through-the-eyes-of-a-child | teddy-polar-bear-goes-to-the-beach | teddy-polar-bear-has-a-friend | i-do-but-thats-another-story | medicine-man-gives-heap-big-medicine! | teddy-polar-bear-–-gone-but-not-forgotten | i’m-a-celebrity-–-get-me-out-of-here | my-lover-has-a-red-red-nose

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The tags were deleted because of the following errors:

- Das Tag enthält zu viele Wörter. Ein Tag darf nur aus maximal 5 Wörtern bestehen. Bitte trenne Deine Tags mit Kommas und nicht mit Leerzeichen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your understanding. We hope you enjoy the new improved tag system.

If you want to read more about the new tag system, or give us some feedback on the changes, please click here: The Blog

Your blog.de team

So "no" blog team I am not enjoying the "new improved tag system" one bit. I would have at least preferred some notice so that I could try and find a way around this rather than have a fait accompli.

It seems that spammers have now latched onto group blogs and are signing themselves up as group members on group blogs that have open membership. Obviously once they're members they can post freely on that blog.

Yesterday a spammer joined the Blogship Group and so I deleted him/her immediately.

Gerard Depardieu

I knew he was in the area last month to do some filming for a film called "Mammuth" but assumed it was all finished - obviously not!

This from the local press:

The Poitou-Charentes is rightly known for its beautiful countryside, great beaches, historic towns and food, wine, cognac and pineau. But it is increasingly being known, too, as a major venue for France’s film industry. While it may be a tad premature to talk about Poitou-Charentes rivalling Hollywood or Bollywood, the film industry has been increasingly keen to use this region to shoot movies and TV dramas.

During the summer of 2009 a number of major films have been shot in Poitou-Charentes, and have attracted some of the biggest names in cinema. The first to be shot was ‘Aux quatre vents’ by director Jacques Doillon which features Julie Depardieu, daughter of the French film great Gérard Depardieu.

Meanwhile director Benoît Delépine has been filming ‘Mammuth’ which is being made in both the Charente and the Charente-Maritime. The stars of this production are Gérard Depardieu himself plus another leading figure in French film, Isabelle Adjani.

So, let's start again

Please complete the following sentence:

Here’s the idea:

•	Take a look at some blogs that you’ve never read before

•	Find one you like

•	Blog an introduction and include a link

Here’s mine:

This blog entitled "Have I Got a Book For You?" is by Lisa Crisp who writes reviews about the books she has read – this is what she says by way of introduction:

As I'm soon to be entering the publishing world, I thought I should make an effort to not only read, which is easy, but write about reading, which is not. Hence this blog.
What will follow will be every book that I read, whether high brow or complete trash. No holds barred.

I hope that some might stumble across this list and find a gem of a book, or at least find some of my writings amusing.

Go on - check it out

Don't forget to go "walkabout" and let us know what you find out there in blogland.

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air,
They fly so high, nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams they fade and die

Earlier today I posted a poem about dreams which reminded me of a photograph I once took of a bubble.

I've just located the image

They were touring around the marketplace looking at the goods and such, when they passed this small sandal shop. From inside they heard a gentleman with a Spanish accent say, 'You, foreigners! Come in. Come into my humble shop.' So the married couple walked in.The Spaniard said to them, 'I have some special sandals I think you'd be interested in. They make you wild at sex like a great desert camel.'

Well, the wife was really interested in buying the sandals after what the man had claimed, but her husband felt he really didn't need them, being the sex god he was. The husband asked the man, 'How could sandals make you into a sex freak?'The man replied, 'Just try them on.' Well, the husband, after much badgering from his wife, finally conceded to try them on. As soon as he slipped them onto his feet, he got this wild look in his eyes; something his wife hadn't seen in many years--- raw sexual power. In a blink of an eye, the husband rushed the Spaniard, threw him on a table and started tearing at the guy's pants. All the time the man was screaming, 'YOU HAVE THEM ON THE WRONG FEET!'
